Marine fuel seller Sonan Bunkers has opened its first office in Central America with the launch of Sonan Energy Panama in Panama City.

Hernán Ortiz, who brings over 30 years of experience in the maritime industry across the Americas, Middle East, and Europe, will lead the Panama operation as managing director, with the hub serving clients across the region from Canada to Argentina.

"The launch of Sonan Energy Panama is more than an expansion — it's a reflection of our group's evolving identity and our unwavering commitment to the future of marine energy," said Graham Furse, chief executive officer. "As we transition from traditional bunkering to a broader energy-focused model, we are investing in cleaner fuels, smarter solutions, and deeper client coverage across the Americas and beyond."

Furse described the company's vision as becoming "the most agile, transparent, and forward-thinking energy partner in the maritime sector."

Ortiz commented: "The opening of Sonan Energy Panama marks a fundamental step in the growth strategy of the company and in its commitment to leading the transition towards cleaner energy solutions in the maritime sector."

He added that his understanding of the South American market and local culture, combined with the company's operational approach, would help meet client needs in the region.

The company said it is actively recruiting personnel and strengthening operations across all offices as part of its expansion strategy.
