Nippon Yuka Kogyo has launched a lubrication oil analysis offering aimed at monitoring the condition of ammonia-fuelled engines, according to an announcement by parent company NYK.

The new solution will be available to customers outside the group and is intended to support the early detection of abnormalities in dual-fuel diesel engines that use ammonia and heavy oil as fuels.

NYK noted that condition monitoring through the examination of engine lubricating oil is an effective way to assess engine performance, as the state of internal components is reflected in the lubricant.

The group stated that it and Nippon Yuka Kogyo had been conducting verification work towards the launch of a lubricant testing programme for ammonia-fuel engines and had accumulated the technical knowledge required for such a task.

The service is scheduled to launch at Sea Japan, which opens on 22 April 2026.

Nippon Yuka Kogyo is based in Naka-ku, Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, and specialises in chemicals related to the maritime industry, providing research and development, analytical support, product innovation, and sales.
