Bunker company Monjasa says that during the month of January it has undergone "the industry's most thorough" independent testing, inspection, and certification, which has been carried out by Bureau Veritas.

The Danish firm says it now has "the most comprehensive certified quality management and compliance set-up in the global bunker industry", and that it "leads the race" for improved quality bunker operations on a global level.

Monjasa confirmed on Friday that it has obtained the following certifications:

Monjasa and Bureau Veritas: statements

"Monjasa managed to upgrade its unique combination of quality certifications and become the first bunker company to meet the new and harsh requirements, which were executed in 2015 and increasingly take a risk management approach," Monjasa noted.

Bureau Veritas said in a statement: "From the whole organisation and especially from the upper management level we have seen strong leadership commitment to support the certification process. The Management Review Report is comprehensive and documents all relevant aspects in relation to the performance of the system."

Monjasa added: "We always look to the future and are delighted to receive this vote of confidence in our operations from the most recognised and independent industry expert.

"In the current market situation, we see quality management and compliance as a prerequisite to work in bunkering, and we have decided to act in consequence. We have made million-dollar investments both in terms of human expertise and creating end-to-end IT solutions in all our physical and trading operations."

Svend Stenberg Molholt, Monjasa Group COO, remarked: "Monjasa declines several bunker fuel inquiries every week. Trading opportunities, that do not comply with our quality standards or are doubtful in relation to our strict compliance policies, we simply leave to our competitors."
