Storage operator Inter Terminals Sweden notes that the new lease agreement it has signed for land at the Port of Gothenburg means that it is now better placed to carry out tank conversion and construction projects moving forwards and to not only maintain but also enhance its operational framework, facilitating increased investment in technologies that support renewable fuel initiatives.
A leading provider of storage and logistics services for liquid energy products, the company's Gothenburg terminal offers fully automated low-sulphur bunkering in addition to providing alternative fuels.
"We have already begun transitioning our operations, and at the Port of Gothenburg, we're already handling renewable fuels like FAME and HVO. With longer lease terms and a more transparent and predictable cost structure, we are now better positioned to scale up further – for example, by converting or building new tanks for renewable raw materials and products, as well as investing in new technology and an expanded green portfolio," commented Johan Zettergren, Managing Director of Inter Terminals Sweden.
Inter Terminals has been operating in Gothenburg since 1964 and says it is the port's third-largest customer in the energy business segment.
On July 1, Inter Terminals Sweden and the Port of Gothenburg signed lease agreements covering above-ground areas and underground rock caverns, as well as a cargo port dues agreement based on traffic and volume. Essentially, this arrangement outlines the compensation that Inter Terminals will pay to the port authority for access to its facilities and infrastructure.
The deal, spanning 25 years, signifies a strategic partnership that aims to enhance both companies' capabilities amidst a global energy transition.
Göran Eriksson, CEO of the Port of Gothenburg, remarked: "With a 25-year agreement, we gain long-term stability and predictability, giving us a solid foundation for developing an energy port for the future focused on transitioning from fossil to renewable products. Having a skilled, long-term, and responsible partner like Inter Terminals Sweden with us in this effort is something we see as very positive."
