ADPC awards Khalifa Port contract

Contract includes the construction of container and general cargo terminals at Khalifa Port and Industrial Zone.

Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) has announced that it has awarded a Dh1.2 billion contract to Hyundai Engineering and Construction for its flagship Khalifa Port and Industrial Zone project.

The agreement includes project management, design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of all civil works associated with the Offshore Terminal Area, consisting of a 1,000 metres semi automated container terminal.

The contract will also include a 1,400-metre break bulk and general cargo terminal, which is expected to have an initial capacity of two million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) of containers and nine million tonnes of general cargo.

Work is due to commence immediately and is scheduled to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2012.
