Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) has classed M/T Modi, a 73,500 dwt crude/product oil tanker built by New Times Shipbuilding (NTS) at its yard in China for Greek shipowner Dynacom.

Delivered in June, the vessel is based on an NTS proprietary design — with the shipyard holding full intellectual property rights — and is said to combine high cargo capacity with operational flexibility.

M/T Modi measures 228.00 metres in overall length, with a moulded breadth of 32.20 metres, a moulded depth of 20.80 metres and a design draft of 12.20 metres. The vessel is designed to comply with the requirements of both the original and expanded Panama Canal.

The tanker has been awarded BV’s CLEANSHIP and GREEN PASSPORT EU class notations. It is also classed as BIOFUEL-READY, enabling future use of sustainable biofuels, and incorporates an LNGFUEL-PREPARED design to facilitate a potential future conversion to LNG propulsion.

On the digital side, M/T Modi complies with BV’s CYBER RESILIENT requirements and carries the SYS-NEQ-1 (one-man bridge control) notation, along with AUT-PORT (auto-docking) functionality, supporting a high level of bridge automation.

BV and NTS have worked together on more than 40 newbuildings across a range of vessel types, including large bulk carriers, crude and product tankers, and ultra-large container ships. BV also has an established relationship with Dynacom, covering vessels including Kamsarmax bulk carriers, Suezmax tankers, and LR1 and LR2 product tankers.

Jeffrey Guo, Marine & Offshore Asia Pacific Senior Vice-President at Bureau Veritas, commented: “The delivery of M/T Modi demonstrates how innovation and collaboration are enabling the next generation of tanker design. By combining advanced digital capabilities with future fuel readiness, this vessel is well positioned to meet the shipping industry’s evolving operational and environmental requirements. We are delighted to support NTS and Dynacom on this project and congratulate all partners on this successful delivery.”
