Singapore achieves Q3 sales record

Q3 sales reach 9.3 million tonnes as monthly volumes exceed 3 million tonnes for the third time in a row.

Bunker sales in Singapore rose by 109,300 in September compared to the previous month and by 316,200 tonnes year-on year, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales of marine fuel at the world's leading bunker port reached 3,172,400 tonnes last month, surpassing the 3 million tonne mark for the third month in succession and achieving record third-quarter sales of 9,308,100 tonnes. This is also the first time in the port's history that sales volumes have exceeded 3 million tonnes in three consecutive months.

Accumulated bunker sales in 2009 have now surpassed the 27 million tonne mark at 24,200,200 tonnes - the first time this has been achieved by September. In a comparison with last year, bunker volumes reached 26,396,400 tonnes over the same nine-month period.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - rose by 100,800 tonnes in September to 2,482,800 tonnes from 2,382,000 in August. The figure is the second-highest in the port's history for an individual fuel grade and was also 397,200 tonnes higher than during the same month last year when volumes sold were 2,085,600 tonnes.

Meanwhile sales of 500-cst - the second-best selling product in Singapore - increased by 19,500 tonnes to 336,100 tonnes in September. The figure is the largest recorded this year for 500-cst but 73,100 tonnes, or 18 percent, below sales of 409,200 in September 2008.

Sales of 180-cst dipped for the third month in succession in September. Volumes were 1,500 tonnes lower than in the previous month at 176,700 tonnes and 28,000 tonnes, or 13.7 percent, less than in September 2008 when the monthly total reached 204,700 tonnes.

Below are tables of bunker sales in Singapore for each fuel grade in 2009 and 2008 respectively with accumulated totals in the bottom row.
