North West Europe average jumps almost $15


Price gains continue as NWE Bunker Index rises $39.27/mt since the start of the week.



The NWE Bunker Index (ABP) - Bunker Index's average bunker price (ABP) for ports in North West Europe (NWE) - skyrocketed $14.75 per metric tonne today following a morning of significant gains for ports in the region.

Continuing the firm trend seen over the previous three days in both the bunker and crude oil markets, the average bunker price for all grades in North West Europe rose to $376.68 per tonne today from yesterday's price assessment of $372.93 per tonne.

Marine Gas Oil (MGO) recorded the largest gains today with price levels rising by at least $20 per tonne in the ports of Antwerp, Falmouth, Gothenburg, Hamburg, Kaliningrad, Rotterdam and St. Petersburg. As a result, the average MGO price for the region rose by $16.06 to $498.93 per tonne.

Meanwhile, all four 380-centistoke (cst) and 180-cst fuel oil categories (high- and low-sulphur) rose by at least $14 per tonne in Antwerp, Gdansk, Hamburg, Kaliningrad, Klaipeda and Rotterdam. The ports of Gothenburg, Tallinn and Riga also recorded double-digit gains for high- and low-sulphur 380-cst and 180-cst.

As a consequence of these significant price increases, the NWE IFO 380 Index - Bunker Index's average bunker price for IFO 380 in North West Europe - rose by $14.93 to $326.62 per tonne and the NWE IFO 180 Index increased by $15.31 to $342.08 per tonne.

Bunker Index's other distillate price index for North West Europe, the NWE MDO Index jumped $12.27 to reach $451.36 per tonne. It has now risen by $37.81 since the start of the week.
