Hamina LNG terminal construction under way

Haminan Energia sees LNG bunkering as part of its plan to drive future growth.

Hamina LNG Oy, a joint venture between Haminan Energia Oy and Alexela Group, says it has started construction of an LNG terminal at the Finnish port of Hamina, located in the Gulf of Finland.

During the first phase of the project, a 30,000-cubic-metre (cbm) LNG storage tank is to be built, which will be used to deliver gas to Hamina's energy distribution network and to meet the needs of the land and sea transportation industries.

Haminan Energia sees LNG as an opportunity to drive future growth. By offering LNG bunkering at HaminaKotka harbour, this will enable LNG-powered vessels to call at the port to refuel.

In the future, the aim is to expand the terminal with an additional 20,000-cbm storage tank.

The total cost of the project is said to be approximately EUR 95 million. It is slated for completion in 2020.
