Monjasa launches First Arctic with Christian Bonfils

Company to focus on 'the remote and hard-to-reach areas' with former Nordic Bulk Carriers CEO at the helm.

Danish bunker firm Monjasa Holding has joined forces with Christian Bonfils - a former partner in Nordic Bulk Carriers - to form a new company called First Arctic. The news comes nine months after Bonfils' resignation as CEO of Nordic Bulk Carriers.

According to the company's website, First Arctic is "a high-end infrastructure and service partner to the growing number of maritime and offshore operators in the Arctic and other remote areas".

"We act as a strategic partner in the remote and hard-to-reach areas, where oil & gas companies and other natural resources industries are making significant investments," the company adds.

Describing its co-founder and CEO, First Arctic says: "Christian Bonfils holds extensive experience from the international shipping industry. Furthermore, he possesses strong entrepreneurial skills, demonstrated by founding both Custodia Shipping, and most recently, Nordic Bulk Carriers. Christian Bonfils was also instrumental, when the Northern Sea Route and the North West Passage were opened for commercial maritime traffic in 2010 and 2013, respectively."

Commenting on its objectives for the future, the company states: "Together, we are determined to sustain our ambitious and pioneering market approach in hard-to-reach areas like the Arctic region, West Africa or the Oceania."

Monjasa currently operates a fleet of more than 35 ships and 3 terminals. Total revenue exceeded US$2.2 billion in 2014, which is equivalent to around 5 million tonnes of oil products supplied.

First Arctic's office is based at the same location as Monjasa's office in Copenhagen. The address is also the home of the Danish Shipowners' Association.
