The Bunker Index (BIX) global monthly average rose by just $0.09, to $789.05 per tonne in May, up from $788.96 per tonne the previous month, according to Bunker Index price data.

May's price is the second lowest since January, when the worldwide average fell by $5.72 to $787.85 per tonne.

Last month's price data means that the BIX average has remained within the $780-$800 per tonne range for 14 consecutive months between April 2013 and May 2014.

In comparison with previous years, the May 2014 average is $2.44 higher than the $786.61 per tonne average price recorded in May 2013 and $56.49 lower than the $845.54 per tonne figure seen in May 2012.
