Shanghai Port has surpassed 2 million cbm of cumulative LNG fuel supplied, with Pacific International Lines (PIL) saying its vessel played a part in reaching the figure.

According to PIL, the threshold was crossed on 25 July when its container vessel Kota Eagle received 4,549 cbm of LNG from SIPG Energy’s LNG bunkering vessel at Lvhuashan Anchorage, off the coast of Shanghai, China.

Kota Eagle, delivered in 2024, is PIL’s first LNG dual-fuel container vessel. The vessel also completed its maiden LNG bunkering operation at Shanghai’s Yangshan Port. PIL says it has now taken delivery of nine LNG dual-fuel newbuild vessels in total as part of a broader fleet modernisation programme the company describes as central to its decarbonisation commitments.

"This landmark achievement by Shanghai Port reflects its rapidly growing bunkering capabilities, which provide the critical support needed for the efficient operation of our expanding fleet of greener vessels. As a Future-Focused shipping line, PIL will continue working closely with like-minded partners such as Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd (SIPG) to chart a more sustainable course for the future of shipping," PIL said.
