Singapore bunker sales fall in January

Sales volumes decline from 19-month high at the world's leading bunker port.

Bunker sales in Singapore fell from their highest level since May 2012 during the month of January, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port decreased last month by 244,600 tonnes, or 6.4 percent, to 3,557,800 tonnes, down from the 19-month high of 3,802,400 tonnes recorded in December.

In comparison with the corresponding month last year, January volumes were down 229,800 tonnes, or 6.1 percent. It is the first time since August that year-on-year monthly volumes have fallen.

Sales of 380 centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - declined by 163,000 tonnes, or 5.6 percent, in January to 2,754,800 tonnes. In comparison with the corresponding month last year, 380 cst sales were down 174,500 tonnes, or 6.0 percent.

500 cst volumes fell 18,500 tonnes, or 2.8 percent, to 635,700 tonnes compared to the previous month's figure of 654,200 tonnes. The result is 53,900 tonnes, or 9.3 percent, higher than in January 2013.
