The average global monthly Bunker Index (BIX) price declined by $25.71 per tonne, or 3.1 percent, in April compared to the previous month, according to Bunker Index price data.

The BIX global monthly average dropped to $791.25 per tonne last month, down from $816.96 per tonne in March. It is the lowest monthly price since July 2012.

Last month's global average is also the first since July 2012 to be under $800 per tonne. It is only the third time since February 2011 that the BIX has been below $800 per tonne levels.

In a comparison with previous years, April 2013 was $97.80 per tonne lower than the $889.05 average price recorded in April 2012 and $55.40 per tonne lower than the $846.65 per tonne figure seen in April 2011.
