Shell Marine has completed its first LNG bunkering operation in Valencia, adding the Spanish port to its network of LNG supply locations across the Mediterranean.
According to Shell, the operation marks the first time LNG has been made available as a marine fuel at the location. Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) was the recipient of the bunker delivery, with Fratelli Cosulich Group also involved in facilitating the operation, alongside the port authority and other stakeholders.
As previously reported, Port Authority of Valencia recently approved six-year authorisations to Shell Western LNG and Axpo Iberia for commercial LNG bunkering services to be carried out via tanker vessels at the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Gandía.
The move towards alternative energies forms part of Valenciaport’s Net Zero Emissions Plan, which aims to lead decarbonisation efforts across its three ports.
