Ian Adams in summer CEO role

Former IBIA chief executive is due to take over from current IAgrE CEO this summer.

The Institution of Agricultural Engineers (IAgrE) has appointed Ian Adams as chief executive designate to take over from current CEO Chris Whetnall, who is retiring this summer.

Adams, who was chief executive of the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) between 2009 and 2011, vacated his position to look after his family whilst his wife recovered from medical treatment. He then set up his own marine consultancy, IMA Marine Ltd, providing research, corporate governance, training and consultancy to a wide range of clients in the marine sector.

Adams first joined P&O Cruises as an Engineering Cadet, gaining an HND in Marine Engineering at Warsash Maritime Academy in Hampshire. He then went on to work for seal technology specialist Deep Sea Seals and latterly for Hamworthy KSE as sales executive between 1998 and 2001.

In 2002, he was appointed Secretary-General of IBIA, becoming Chief Executive in 2009, representing the association at a range of marine events and organizations worldwide, including the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) and is married with a son, aged 12, and daughter, aged 7.
