A.P. Moller - Maersk has taken delivery of Tacoma Maersk, a 9,000-TEU dual-fuel container vessel built at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding's yard in Jingjiang, China.

The vessel forms part of a series of six mid-sized dual-fuel ships with methanol-capable dual-fuel engines set to join the Danish shipping group's fleet, the company explained in a LinkedIn post on 26 August.

Tacoma Maersk was named by its godmother, Ms Elena Sun, a site administrator at Maersk's site office.

Following delivery, the vessel is expected to enter service on Maersk's MECL route, which connects ports in the Middle East and India with the United States East Coast.

As previously reported, the handover of Tangier Maersk — the first in the 9,000-TEU six-ship series — took place earlier this year, also at the Jingjiang yard of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding.

Maersk previously stated that it expected to take delivery of additional vessels in the series later this year, with the final unit scheduled for handover in early 2027.

Maersk has said it aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its business by 2040 through a combination of new vessel technology, operational measures and fuels delivering lifecycle emissions reductions of at least 65% compared with conventional fossil marine fuels.
