Oil Harbour renamed Gothenburg Energy Port

Name change implemented to reflect the increase in alternative forms of energy in recent years.

Commenting on the reason for the name change, the port said it was to demonstrate that there is more than just oil at the harbour. It also handles and produces other fuels including ethanol, bio-oils, methanol and other products.

Jill Södervall, commercial director at Gothenburg Energy Port, said: "We want to highlight the fact that we welcome and encourage the trend towards more renewable fuels. Now that both LNG and biogas will be handled at the port in the near future, the change of name is entirely in keeping with the times."

"A further reason for the change of name is that the word 'oil' is seldom used in international contexts and terms such as crude, fuels or energy products are much more common," the port said, adding that alternative forms of energy have increased in recent years at the Energy Port.

Södervall added: "An important part of the re-profiling is that we will now follow up volumes on a much more detailed level in order to monitor and report on developments."
