Bunker sales in Singapore reached a new record during the month of June, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port rose by 237,300 tonnes, or 6.6 percent, to 3,859,200 tonnes last month, up from 3,621,900 tonnes in May. The figure was also 315,400 tonnes, or 8.9 percent, higher than the 3,543,800 tonnes achieved during the corresponding month last year.

It is the first time that monthly sales have exceeded 3.7 million tonnes, surpassing the previous record of 3,642,400 tonnes, set in January 2011, by 216,800 tonnes, or 6.0 percent.

Sales for the first half of the year reached a new record of 21,161,500 tonnes, breaking last year's record of 20,020,800 tonnes. Second quarter sales of 10,729,600 tonnes were also the highest for any 3-month period.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - reached a new record of 3,031,900 tonnes, beating the previous best of 2,873,700 tonnes achieved in May 2011. The result was 337,400 tonnes, or 12.5 percent, above the 2,694,500 tonnes sold in June 2010.

500-cst volumes last month exceeded half a million tonnes for the first time this year, rising by 39,500 tonnes, or 8.3 percent, to 515,200 tonnes. The figure was also 37,600 tonnes, or 7.9 percent, higher than in the corresponding month last year.
