Singapore sales drop 6.9% in November


500-cst volumes plummet 23% as total monthly sales fall to lowest level since February.

Bunker sales in Singapore last month fell by 245,100 tonnes, or 6.9 percent, in a comparison with October, but were 428,200 tonnes, or 14.9 percent, higher than in the corresponding month last year, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port were 3,311,000 tonnes in November - the lowest figure achieved since February 2010 when sales volumes reached 3,022,400 tonnes.

Despite the decrease, Singapore continues to be on course to achieve annual sales of over 40 million tonnes for the first time, needing only 2,619,600 tonnes next month to achieve the landmark sales figure.

Sales of 380-centistoke - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - remain on course to exceed 30 million tonnes this year despite a fall of 169,200 tonnes, or 6 percent, to 2,646,400 tonnes in November from 2,815,600 tonnes the previous month. The figure was 421,800 tonnes, or 19.0 percent, higher than sales of 2,224,600 tonnes recorded in November 2009.

Sales volumes of 500-cst dropped significantly last month by 99,100 tonnes, or 23.0 percent, to 331,800 tonnes from 430,900 tonnes in October. In a comparison with the year-earlier period, 500-cst volumes were 7,900 tonnes lower.
