Gas Natural Fenosa greenlights 'temporary' HQ transfer to Madrid


LNG bunker supplier says move is due to the 'legal uncertainty' created by recent events in Catalonia.

LNG bunker supplier Gas Natural Fenosa has decided to go ahead with the "temporary" move of its headquarters from Barcelona to Madrid.

The decision was made during an emergency board meeting on Friday afternoon.

"In view of the political and social situation in recent weeks in Catalonia and due to the legal uncertainty that this generates, the board of directors of the company has agreed, as long as this situation continues, on the temporary transfer of its headquarters to the current corporate offices in Madrid, Avenida San Luis, 77," the natural gas firm said.

"The measure is adopted to maintain the normal operation of the business and in order to protect the interests of the company, its customers, employees, shareholders, creditors and suppliers," the company added.

Fenosa said the decision would not affect those companies of the group that provide services exclusively in Catalonia.

The company has had links to Catalonia - and Barcelona especially - since it was formed in 1843 under the name Sociedad Catalana para el Alumbrado por Gas (SCAG).

On January 29, the company performed the first ever LNG bunker transfer to a ferry in Barcelona with its truck-to-ship delivery to the Balearia-operated Abel Matutes.
