IBIA appoints new vice-chairman


Robin Meech replaces Jens Maul Jorgensen, who became IBIA chairman on 1 April.



The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has appointed Robin Meech as its new vice-chairman for a one-year term of office.

An independent and well-respected bunker industry consultant, Meech is a former bunker buyer and author of several books for the marine fuel sector. He replaces Jens Maul Jorgensen, who became IBIA chairman on 1 April.

Welcoming Robin Meech’s appointment, IBIA chief executive Peter Hall said: "Robin Meech has been involved with IBIA for many years and always brings a knowledgeable commercial perspective to the association. We are grateful for his commitment to raising standards and the IBIA team looks forward to working with him closely over the next 12 months."

Robin Meech - career summary

Robin Meech is managing director of Marine and Energy Consulting Ltd, an independent practice established in 2001 focusing on the marine sector with an emphasis on the transport of energy.

He has a particular interest in the bunker industry where he has undertaken assignments for a wide range of clients. He has a strong focus on environmental issues having been involved in the development and assessment of the impact of marine and bunker-related regulations.

Meech has worked with oil majors, traders, independent suppliers, ship owners, refiners and terminal operators. He has played a part in improving the skill base of participants in the industry having directed technical and managerial training events, specifically for the bunker business.

He spent a significant proportion of his career with the international technical and management consultancy Arthur D Little, where he was heavily involved in the evaluation of downstream projects including land transportation, pipelines, and terminals as well the tanker industry.

Meech was appointed as a director of an independent tanker company based in Norway where his responsibilities included managing the purchasing of bunkers.

He is co-author of 'Outlook for Bunker Fuel Oil and Heavy Fuel Oil to 2035' to be published this year and co-author of the book 'Bunkers – An analysis of the Technical and Environmental Issues' published in 2013. He is a member of the board of IBIA.
