GOIL signs MGO supply contract

Ghana Oil Company to source marine gas oil from Asian supplier.

Ghana Oil Company Ltd (GOIL) has clinched a deal to source marine gas oil (MGO) from South Korean supplier SK Shipping Company Ltd..

The supply contract was signed by Yaw Agyemang-Duah, Managing Director of GOIL, and Kyuho Whang, President and CEO of SK Shipping, during a visit to South Korea by GOIL officials earlier this month.

Speaking in an interview with Ghana News Agency, Agyemang-Duah said: "As a corporate objective, GOIL has sought to partner a company which is internationally recognized in its own right, and which could be relied upon to deliver MGO of the quality required by GOIL, using vessels that are acceptable.

"SK Shipping, a part of the global company SK Group, was found to meet the required criteria," he added.

The contract with SK Shipping follows the deal GOIL recently signed with the Ghana Navy, allowing GOIL to use the Sekondi Naval Base to supply marine fuel to the ships of exploration companies operating in the Western Region.

GOIL also signed an agrement with Owere Mines to supply the fuel and lubricant needs of its mining operation.

According to the company, the latest agreement forms part of GOIL's strategy to enter into partnerships that enable it to deliver quality services and products at competitive prices.
