Singapore: Accumulated sales up 10.8% in 2011

2011 volumes remain 676,300 tonnes higher than last year despite month-on-month decline in February.

Bunker sales in Singapore fell by 10.3 percent in February 2011 following record sales figures the previous month, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port were 3,268,800 tonnes in February, down 373,600 tonnes from 3,642,400 tonnes in January. It is the first time that sales volumes have fallen below 3.3 million tonnes since February 2010.

However, the figure was 246,400 tonnes, or 8.2 percent, higher than sales of 3,022,400 tonnes achieved during the corresponding month last year and accumulated sales of 6,911,200 tonnes during the first two months of the year are 676,300 tonnes, or 10.8 percent, higher than the 6,234,900 tonnes recorded in 2010.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - fell by 297,000 tonnes, or 10.4 percent, in February to 2,544,200 tonnes from 2,841,200 tonnes the previous month. However, in a comparison with February 2010, bunker sales were up 213,800 tonnes, or 9.2 percent.

Meanwhile, sales of 500-cst - the port's second best-selling fuel grade - declined by 41,600 tonnes to 438,700 tonnes, down from 480,300 tonnes.

Significantly, in a comparison with the corresponding month last year, sales of 500-cst were 104,900 tonnes, or 31.4 percent, higher in February 2011.

Below are tables of bunker sales in Singapore for each fuel grade in 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2008 respectively with accumulated totals in the bottom row.
