Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding Inc. (TZS) has delivered its third methanol dual-fuel 5,900-teu container carrier, continuing its programme of alternative-fuel vessel construction at its Chinese yard.
The Maersk boxship is fitted with a propulsion system capable of operating on methanol as well as conventional fuel oil.
The delivery follows the recent handover, on 30 April, of Tsuneishi Shipbuilding's second methanol dual-fuelled 5,900-teu container carrier from its yard in China.
TZS said the latest delivery builds on the experience gained from its earlier vessels in the series, adding that it is continuing to develop its technical expertise and production experience in response to increasing demand for ships capable of running on alternative fuels.
The shipbuilder noted that it intends to continue constructing vessels that combine environmental performance with safety and operational reliability.
Fukuyama-headquartered Tsuneishi Shipbuilding has been steadily expanding its portfolio of lower-emission vessels. In May 2025, it delivered a methanol-dual-fuel Ultramax bulk carrier from its Tsuneishi Factory in Japan. This was followed in January 2026 by what it described as the world’s first methanol dual-fuel Kamsarmax bulk carrier, built at Tsuneishi Heavy Industries (Cebu), Inc. in the Philippines.
And after the completion of the first methanol dual-fuel container vessel at TZS in China, Tsuneishi Shipbuilding stated that the design and construction expertise developed in Japan and the Philippines could now be deployed seamlessly across borders.
