Vopak Horizon Fujairah plans terminal expansion

Fujairah terminal's storage capacity to be increased by 606,000 cubic meters.

Vopak Horizon Fujairah has announced that it has decided to expand its storage terminal for oil products in the Port of Fujairah by 606,000 cubic meters (cbm).

After completion of the expansion in the first quarter of 2012, the total storage capacity will be more than 2.1 million cbm.

The expansion consists of 20 new tanks with sizes ranging from 20,000 cbm to 40,000 cbm for the storage of fuel oil and clean petroleum products.

Commenting on its expansion plans, Vopak Horizon Fujairah said: "The expansion reinforces the terminal's position as a bunkering center and trading hub in the region."

Referring to recent developments in the Middle East, Vopak Horizon Fujairah added: "With growing demand and the development of a refining center in the Middle East region, the Port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates is further developing from a regional hub into a global logistics hub. This has resulted into increasing international trade flows that lead to a growing need for make-bulk and break-bulk services and blending."

Vopak Horizon Fujairah is a joint venture between Horizon Terminals Ltd., Royal Vopak, the Government of Fujairah and Kuwait's Independent Petroleum Group. It operates the first independent onshore oil terminal outside the Arabian Gulf, in the Emirate of Fujairah.

Vopak Horizon Fujairah has been awarded ISO-9001-2008 and ISO 14001 certification and is designed to handle oil products including fuel oil, naphtha, gasoline, gas oil, jet fuel, kerosene, condensate and blend components. The terminal can accept tankers of up to 175,000 DWT.
