IBIA election process gets under way


Names of the candidates standing for election to the IBIA Board are released.



The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) Board Elections commenced today as the names of the nominees standing for election to the IBIA Board were officially released in a statement.

The Board Development Committee (BDC) assessed the original nominations received and selected the following three candidates that it said would be best able to fulfil the current requirements of the Board.

The recommended candidates are:

Jens Maul Jorgensen, Bunker Department Director at Oldendorf Carriers, Germany;

Dilip Mody of Global Fuels and Lubricants, India; and

Simon Neo Tiau Gee, Deputy Managing Director of Equatorial Marine Fuel Management Services Pte. Ltd., Singapore.

The other nominees not recommended by the BDC decided to withdraw their candidacy, with the exception of Don Gregory, Director of the Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems Association (EGCSA) and former IBIA Chairman and Director, Environment and Sustainability at BP Marine.

Mr Jens Maul Jorgensen

Worked in the following areas: forwarding agency, agency and chartering.

1992-1996: Avedore Shipping A/S, Copenhagen. Worked in operations, chartering and agency.

1996-2003: MARAG A/S – Maritime Agency Bunkers A/S (O.W. Group).

2003-2007: Bunker Manager for The Armada Group.

2007: Director of Bunker Dept – Oldendorff Carriers.

Dilip Mody

Career Details:

Family business of numerous Gas Stations all over Mumbai. Started Bunkering in 1983 with Global Fuels & Lubricants INC. First Indian to be a member of IBIA. Started a barge company in 1995 which has more than 6 owned barges and various others all over the Indian Coast. Involved in Barge building Yard in 2004.

Electoral Statement:

"I shall focus on representing IBIA at IMO to support change to tighten the emission standards on shipping especially in India and China. I also plan on focusing on reduction of Greenhouse gases. The second major focus shall be on the credit situation information available amongst our members. "

Simon Neo Tiau Gee

"Asia has become the focus of world trading. More vessels are calling Asia ports. Governments and oil traders are also looking into bunkering operations in Asia ports as part of their port activities and income. With my election to the council, I would give an overview of the Asia Market."

Donald Gregory

Career Details:

Donald Gregory has a broad field regulatory, commercial and technical experience in Marine lubricants, fuels and marine engineering. He was previously Director for Sustainability and Fuel Technology responsible for BP Group Marine Energy policy. He has worked in close association with and provided expert support to the MCA and IBIA at IMO MEPC and MSC on a number of marine fuel and air emissions related subjects. He was a member of IMO Secretary General’s Group of Experts.

Since 2001 he has sought to create a forward vision for the marine energy industry in the area of air quality and has been responsible for the formation of SEAaT (Shipping Emissions Abatement and Trading (and the installation of the first full scale exhaust gas scrubber system. He spent 14 years as a marine engineer in chemical tankers.

Electoral Statement:

"IBIA has a major role to play in the developments of the future of marine energy supply. The smaller Board of Directors has the freedom to progress new ideas forward more quickly. I would like to see the membership better informed of Board activities and the proceedings of Board meetings. "

The 12-person Board replaced the old 25-person committee at IBIA's last Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The results of the election are due to be announced in time for next month's AGM, which takes place at The Naval Club, London on February 15th at 16:00 hours, on the same day as the 16th Annual IBIA Dinner.
