Bureau Veritas (BV) will host an online webinar on 5 February to examine the challenges facing the maritime sector as it moves towards lower-emission marine fuels.

The classification society will run two one-hour sessions, scheduled for 9 am and 4 pm CET, aimed at stakeholders across the sustainable marine fuel supply chain.

According to Bureau Veritas, the industry continues to face a combination of regulatory uncertainty, technology-readiness constraints, fuel price volatility, and limited availability of alternative fuels.

BV also noted that producers of low-emission fuels may struggle to secure long-term offtake agreements and reach final investment decisions.

The webinar will include a market overview covering fuel pathways, pricing dynamics and demand forecasts. Regulatory topics are expected to address certification requirements, postponements under the IMO Net-Zero Framework (NZF), RED III transposition and the role of incentive schemes.

Bureau Veritas said the sessions will also explore longer-term procurement strategies and investment decision-making, as well as tools and approaches to reduce commercial and regulatory risk.

The event comes as shipowners, fuel suppliers and investors continue to assess compliance pathways under global and regional decarbonisation measures, including the International Maritime Organization’s greenhouse gas strategy and the EU’s FuelEU Maritime regulation.
