Fujairah storage: 'Strategic' location for bunkering

Work begins on storage unit said to be strategically located to supply fuel to commercial ships.

UAE firm Emarat has begun work to expand the Fujairah Storage Unit for the storage and distribution of petroleum products in a location which the company says is strategically located to supply bunker fuel to commercial ships.

The expansion project, which will be used for storing and distributing gas oil, fuel, gasoline and jet fuel, will increase the storage capacity to 250 thousand cubic meters.

The project will aim to meet the increase in demand for petroleum derivatives storage together with the requirements of ships and electricity stations.

Engineer Omar A. Al Zaffin, Manager Engineering Operations, said that the design of the new tanks complies with the highest criteria of safety, as they employ control systems in accordance with international standards.

"Also, the project is situated in a strategic area that facilitates supplying fuel to commercial ships, as it has its routes to shipping docks in Fujairah Port, the African markets and the Indian Peninsula," Emarat said in a statement.

Once the project is completed, Engineer Omar Abdullah Al Shamsi, Logistic & Trading Manager at Emarat, said it would open new scopes to develop the fuel storage sector in the area in accordance with the strategic location of Fujairah and the role to be played in improving the local and international economy.
