Singapore posts May bunker sales increase


Volumes up 1.2% MoM and 2.5% YoY; 500 cSt posts biggest rise with 17.9% growth compared to last year.

Bunker sales in Singapore during the month of May increased month-on-month (MoM) by 50,200 tonnes, or 1.2 percent, to 4,283,500 tonnes, whilst in a year-on-year (YoY) comparison, the figure was up 102,900 tonnes, or 2.5 percent, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

The total amount sold during the first five months of 2018 was 21,426,600 tonnes, which is 342,200 tonnes, or 1.6 percent, higher than last year.

380 centistoke (cSt) sales decreased MoM - for the second month in a row - by 75,100 tonnes, or 2.5 percent, to 2,948,000 tonnes. YoY, Singapore's best-selling fuel grade recorded a drop of 175,000 tonnes, or 5.6 percent. It is the fourth consecutive monthly YoY decline.

Volume growth for 500 cSt

For 500 cSt, Singapore posted a volume of 1,009,600 tonnes, as sales increased both MoM (by 83,300 tonnes, or 9.0 percent) and YoY (by 153,000 tonnes, or 17.9 percent).

Sales of low-sulphur marine gas oil (LSMGO) in May fell MoM by 16,300 tonnes, or 12.9 percent, to 109,800 tonnes. And in a YoY comparison, the figure was up 7,200 tonnes, or 7.0 percent - the fourth successive monthly rise.

Standard MGO sales dipped MoM by 1,800 tonnes, or 2.8 percent, to 62,600 tonnes. YoY, the figure was just 200 tonnes, or 0.3 percent, lower.

Vessel arrivals and bunker calls

According to the MPA, the number of ships greater than 75 gross tonnes (gt) calling at Singapore for bunkers in May was 3,237 - a MoM decrease of 92, or 2.8 percent, and a YoY drop of 276, or 7.9 percent.

The total number of vessels greater than 75 gt arriving in Singapore rose MoM by 92, or 0.8 percent, to 12,225, whilst YoY, May's figure was lower by 430, or 3.4 percent.
