Barents NaturGass AS has launched LNG bunkering operations for Havila Kystruten at the city quay in Hammerfest, following regulatory clearance for a new two-truck simultaneous delivery system.

The Norwegian supplier conducted its first truck-to-ship bunkering operation after receiving approval from the Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB) for a design that allows two LNG trucks to fuel a vessel simultaneously. The company said the initial operation was completed safely and without disruption.

Barents NaturGass noted that upcoming bunkering calls will focus on refining procedures and cutting overall refuelling time as the system moves into regular use. The dual-truck configuration is intended to boost delivery efficiency compared with conventional single-truck operations, helping vessels minimise time alongside.

The company also reiterated its view that liquid methane will play a central role in marine fuels going forward, whether supplied as conventional LNG or liquefied biogas (LBG).

For Havila Kystruten, the start of operations in Hammerfest adds LNG bunkering capability in one of Norway’s northernmost ports, supporting the operator’s low-emissions coastal services.
