ClassNK subsidiary launches bunker fuel oil analysis service

New service provides an oil analysis report for the properties of bunker fuel oil.

The subsidiary of classification society ClassNK, ClassNK Consulting Service (NKCS), has launched a new bunker fuel oil analysis service.

The new service provides an oil analysis report for the properties of bunker fuel oil based on the ISO8217 Standard, with advice such as oil heating and purification.

In addition to analysis based on the ISO8217 Standard, the new service also provides special analysis based on request, such as asphaltene analysis, measuring the degree of oxidation, analysis using a fuel combustion analyser (FCA), gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR).

After sampled oil is received at the nearest laboratory from each ship, ClassNK says an analysis report will be provided by email and online within 48 hours. Testing laboratories are located in Singapore, UAE, UK, and the USA.

"It is important to understand the properties of bunker fuel oil in order to ensure the safety of vessels and to prevent equipment failure," ClassNK said.
