IBIA aims to drive industry issues at SIBCON

Association to meet with senior port officials to discuss the IBIA Port Charter.

The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) says it will be holding high-level meetings to discuss bunker industry issues during the upcoming Singapore International Bunkering Conference and Exhibition (SIBCON), due to be held between 4th and 7th October.

At the event, the association says it will be meeting senior management from leading bunker ports to discuss the wider adoption of the IBIA Port Charter - a proposal for best-practice guidelines standing for quality, quantity and transparency.

Peter Hall [pictured], IBIA's CEO who will be leading the discussions, is inviting any port representatives who would like to join this meeting to contact him at peter.hall@ibia.net.

Hall is also encouraging any members or bunker industry professionals to join him on the IBIA stand - Stand 62 - to discuss industry issues ranging from the current trade and environment challenges, fuel quality issues, managing uncertainty in the lead up to the global sulphur cap and key milestones to manage the transition, combating fraud through best practice, and IBIA's standard operating procedures (SOP) for surveyors during bunkering deliveries using mass flow meters.

In a statement, Hall said on Friday: "Singapore is an important location for our members, and IBIA is focused on delivering responsive advice and services to our growing membership base across the region. With this in mind, we recently moved to larger offices in Singapore to increase our popular courses on bunkering and SOP for bunker surveyors. We look forward to developing the Port Charter through our meetings with ports in the region, to meeting existing and new members and to contributing to this important industry event."

SIBCON attracts more than 1600 participants from more than 70 countries. IBIA's expert speakers at the event are to include current IBIA chairman Robin Meech and past IBIA chairman Jens Maul Jorgensen, director of bunker, Oldendorff Carriers.

The IBIA in Asia executive committee will be represented by Capt Rahul Choudhuri, managing director, VPS, Danny Chua, senior partner, Joseph Tan Jude Benny and Timothy Cosulich, managing director, Fratelli Cosulich as well as IBIA in Asia's regional manager Simon Neo.
