Gazprom and Mitsui sign LNG bunkering memorandum

Companies to carry out feasibility and marketing studies related to LNG bunkering in the Asia-Pacific region.

Gazprom and Mitsui Co., Ltd. have signed a memorandum to jointly collaborate in LNG bunkering studies in the Asia-Pacific region.

A meeting was held between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Masami Iijima, Representative Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mitsui & Co., Ltd, on 2nd September. The meeting took place during the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) 2016 in Vladivostok, which was also attended by Vladimir Putin.

At the event, Miller and Iijima signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), confirming their intention to cooperate in feasibility and marketing studies related to the LNG bunkering of ships in Russia's Far East and the Asia-Pacific region.

Both parties also discussed cooperation on liquefied natural gas production within the Sakhalin II project and the increase in output with the construction of the third production train of the LNG plant.

"Gazprom and Mitsui have successfully cooperated on the Sakhalin II project. Now we have an excellent opportunity to partner in a new business area: small-scale LNG. Joint efforts in the bunkering industry will help our companies diversify our businesses and strengthen our positions in the dynamic Asian market," commented Alexey Miller.
