CSL takes delivery of methanol-ready Kamsarmax as fleet renewal programme advances

CSL has taken delivery of MV CSL Kuleana from YAMIC Shipyard, the fourth vessel in a series of five Kamsarmax newbuilds being developed as part of the CSL International Pool fleet renewal programme.

The vessel was handed over on 29 May, and has since departed on its maiden voyage.

The newbuild series is designed to replace older vessels within the CSL International Pool fleet. According to CSL, the programme is intended to improve performance, operational flexibility and environmental compliance across the fleet. The standardised configuration shared across the series is designed to allow the fleet to respond more dynamically to market conditions while maintaining consistent service for customers.

CSL Kuleana is built around a fourth-generation Kamsarmax hull form that the company says exceeds EEDI Level III requirements. It is fitted with Tier III, methanol-ready engines and equipped for shore power connection, enabling reduced emissions while in port.

With a cargo capacity of 72,250 metric tonnes and a self-unloading rate of up to 5,000 metric tonnes per hour, the newly completed ship is designed for high-capacity lift and efficient discharge. The new series is expected to deliver approximately 40% greater efficiency than the vessels it replaces, driven by improvements in fuel consumption and optimised cargo lift.

One further vessel in the five-ship series remains to be delivered.
