Singapore: Fifth decline in bunker sales in six months

Most significant decrease since February as bunker sales fall to their lowest level since March.

Bunker sales in Singapore fell for the second consecutive month in June to their lowest level since March, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port decreased last month by 263,800 tonnes, or 7.3 percent, to 3,373,800 tonnes, down from 3,637,600 tonnes in May. It is the fifth monthly decrease in the last six months and the most significant since February.

In comparison with the corresponding month last year, June volumes were down by 104,400 tonnes, or 3.0 percent. It is the third time in 2014 that year-on-year monthly volumes have fallen.

Accumulated bunker sales for the year so far are 20,844,400 tonnes, which represents a decrease of 42,300 tonnes compared to the first six months of 2013 (20,886.700 tonnes). The figure is also below the volumes sold during the corresponding period in 2012 (21,738,000 tonnes) and 2011 (21,161,500 tonnes), but above the 20,020,800 tonnes sold between January and June 2010.

Sales of 380 centistoke (cSt) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - fell by 221,100 tonnes, or 8.2 percent, in June to 2,479,800 tonnes - the second lowest figure of the year so far and the biggest decline since February. In comparison with the corresponding month last year, 380 cSt sales were down by 108,900 tonnes, or 4.2 percent.

500 cSt volumes fell from last month's second highest ever figure of 718,200 tonnes to 668,700 tonnes - the third best number this year. The result is 27,100 tonnes, or 4.2 percent, higher than in June 2013.

Below are tables of bunker sales in Singapore for each fuel grade in 2014, 2013, 2012 and 2011 with accumulated totals in the bottom row.
