Curoil launches Aruba supply operation

Subsidiary Curoil Aruba to carry out deliveries of 380 cst, 180 cst, MGO and marine lubricants.

Curacao Oil NV (Curoil), an oil products marketing and distribution company with its main base of operations located on the islands of Bonaire and Curaçao, has confirmed the launch of its bunker fuel supply operation onshore and offshore Aruba, by its new subsidiary business Curoil Aruba.

The launch means that Curoil’s operations now cover all three of the so-called 'ABC islands' of the Leeward Antilles - Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao - which form part of the Lesser Antilles.

Curoil Aruba will be carrying out deliveries from its 6,854dwt double-hulled tanker Zeta 1. The company will be supplying 380 centistoke (cst) and 180 cst intermediate fuel oil (IFO), high and low sulphur marine gas oil (MGO) and marine lubricants.

Commenting on the news, Mr. Yamil Lasten, Managing Director of Curoil, said: "We are very excited with this market expansion and we remain committed to offering our customers the same high level of service and high quality of products we are offering in the current markets. Our services are available 24/7 and 365 days a year; having our own vessel and control over the supply chain, we are able to provide our customers with the highest quality fuels in a short turnaround time."

Curoil supply coverage

Since 1985, Curoil has been supplying fuel on the islands of Curacao and Bonaire to airports, utility companies, gas stations and vessels in the harbours and also offshore.

In Bonaire, the company supplies MGO at the port of Kralendijk.

At Curaçao, Curoil sources product from the Isla Refinery, also known as Emmastad Refinery, to supply marine fuel to customers.

At the Isla refinery jetties, Curoil supplies by barge to tankers loading or discharging at the oil terminal.

The company also supplies bunker fuel at the Mega Cruise Ship 'bunkers-only' terminal, which opened in Curaçao in 1999. Located only 200 metres to the west of the main harbor inlet and extending some 100 metres into the sea, the Mega Cruise terminal was constructed primarily to accommodate the newest generation cruise liners. However, the installation of bunker facilities at the terminal also enables ex-pipe deliveries directly from its main depot at Willemstad, offering a 'bunkers-only' option for all types of vessels requiring marine fuel in Curacao. Curoil also carries out deliveries at Bullen Bay, Caracas Bay and Fuik Bay. Bullen Bay is a deep sea port, particularly suited for Ultra Large Crude Carriers (ULCCs) or other large vessels working cargoes or calling for bunkers only. A wide range of IFOs as well as marine diesel oil (MDO) and MGO are supplied.

Fuik Bay is exclusively used by cargo vessels loading and unloading at the Curaçao Mining Co. Here, Curoil can arrange truck deliveries of MGO.

Meanwhile, Caracas Bay is mainly used by ships undergoing repairs, where Curoil is able to supply by barge.
