Crowley acquires another Alaskan fuel supplier

Newly acquired firm, CPD Alaska, LLC, has been supplying in Alaska for more than 50 years.

Crowley's Alaska fuel sales and distribution company, CPD Alaska, LLC, has completed its acquisition of Juneau-based Taku Oil Sales, Inc.

Founded in 1953 by Clarence E. Jacobsen, Taku Oil Sales is a respected local fuel company that has been serving the Southeastern Alaska community of Juneau for more than 50 years.

Jeff Hansen, president of Taku, and the Jacobsen family are leaving the oil business to pursue other interests. The company operates a 2.5 million-gallon bulk fuel storage terminal, a deep-water marine fuel dock and two service stations in the Juneau area.

While the leadership at Taku will change, the company will continue to provide great products and services under the Taku brand name. The company’s 13 employees have been welcomed as new members of the Crowley team.

“The owners of Taku Oil Sales are very happy to have made this arrangement with Crowley. We feel like it is the best thing that could have happened for our employees and for the community of Juneau,” said Jeff Hansen, president and shareholder of Taku, who will remain with the company for a short period to assist in the transition.

“Taku is a great fit for the Crowley organization,” said Bob Cox, Crowley vice president for petroleum distribution. “The acquisition will allow us to grow in the southeast Alaska market and offer our existing customer base service in more areas. The Taku staff share similar values in safety, environmental protection and customer service with Crowley, and our team at CPD Alaska LLC has substantial resources to support them.”

Crowley currently operates 22 fuel terminals in western Alaska and the rail belt, with over 265 employees. This is Crowley’s second acquisition of a southeast Alaska fuel distributor. The company acquired Anderes Oil in Ketchikan on July 1.

Crowley continues to position itself as a leading player in the Alaska fuel industry, providing transportation, distribution and sales of petroleum products to more than 280 communities across Alaska.

Crowley supports the energy industry on the North Slope with summer sealifts of large production modules and various marine transportation services. At the southern terminus of the trans-Alaska oil pipeline, Crowley provides tanker escort and docking services in Valdez Harbor and Prince William Sound for Alyeska Pipeline Service Company’s Ship Escort/Response Vessel System.
