Aquametro: Positive response at SMM

Swiss firm says it received 'significant' interest for its fuel-related products at this month's SMM event.

Aquametro AG says that it received a positive response during this month's Shipbuilding, Machinery & Marine Technology International Trade Fair (SMM Exhibition) in Hamburg, held on September 7-10 2010.

The Switzerland-based firm, which had a stand at the annual maritime event, commented that it received a 'huge stream of visitors', from which a significant number were interested in finding out more about its products and solutions.

Amongst the products displayed at SMM, was the CONTOIL® CFM-T, a cost-effective real-time system to monitor and log fuel consumption of all engines onboard work boats running on diesel. The product also monitors tank levels and fuel in and out during refuelling.

Another feature of the CFM-T is its ability to produce automated reports as well as trip and average data screens.

Technical data

* 5.7" touch screen PLC
* Front panel IP 65 class protection
* Operation condition 0 °C…50 °C max. r.H. 95 %, non-condensing
* Connected via ship’s LAN to the CFM-T
* Inputs:
- 1 - 8 Engines differential consumption measurement
- 1 - 2 Bunker meter pulses
- 1 - 2 Pt100 fuel temperature sensors for temperature compensation
- 1 - 2 Tank level sensor
- 1 Serial Interface NMEA (GPS; for SOG, heading and Position)
- Optional: 1 - 3 shaft rpm signals

Features

* One solution for multiple engines (up to 8) saves costs
* Checks all engine fuel activities onboard and compares with tank situation
* Easy data transfer via Ethernet to other onboard equipment
* Tamper-proof measurement
* Tested and proved system
* Easy and most accurate measurement of engine fuel consumption

Benefits

* Easy overview
* Transparency of fuel consumption
* Low installation costs
* Short down-time period
* Minimum maintenance required
* Armortisation time less than 6 months!

Diesel Switch MKII

Another product featured at Aquametro's stand in Hamburg was the Diesel Switch MKII, which is equipped with a 3-way blending valve and adjusts the fuel ratio of heavy fuel oil (HFO) and marine diesel oil (MDO)/marine gas oil (MGO) in relation to a set value, which is controlled by a logic controller.

The product includes manual and pneumatic valves, temperature and pressure sensors and the logic controller with touch screen display, which controls the switch over process.

Aquametro says that the logic controller regulates even and permissible temperature changes (i.e. MAN less than 2°C/min.); controls and monitors the fuel temperature in relation to viscosity and controls the lowest permissible viscosity. Furthermore, during the blending procedure it is said to guarantee that valid limits of sulphur content will be adjusted, controlled and stored in a special history file.

A special feature of Diesel Switch MKII is a compatibility check for both fuel qualities prior to any blending or change over operation.

Diesel Switch MKII is said to be simple to install - for both newbuilds and retrofits - and easy to handle. Each complete mounted unit is also tested before installation.
