Singapore sales top 30m tonne mark

Accumulated sales surpass 30 million tonnes for the first time in October.

Accumulated bunker sales in Singapore for the year so far surpassed the 3 million tonne mark for the fourth month in succession in October as the port contined to set new records, according to estimates released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port were 3,122,300 tonnes in October, 50,000 tonnes less than in September but 196,800 tonnes higher than during the same month last year.

It is the first time in the port's history that sales volumes have exceeded 3 million tonnes for four consecutive months and also the first time that accumulated sales for the year have surpassed 30 million tonnes by October.

Accumulated bunker sales have now reached 30,322,500 tonnes during the first ten months of the year and are on course to eclipse last year's record of 34,936,400 tonnes. In a comparison with last year, bunker volumes reached 29,322,200 tonnes over the same eight-month period.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - fell by 20,000 tonnes to 2,462,800 tonnes in October compared to the previous month, but were 288,700 higher than the 2,174,100 tonnes recorded during the same month in 2008.

Meanwhile, sales of 500-cst - the second-best selling product in Singapore - rose by 7,800 tonnes last month to 343,900 tonnes compared to September. However, the figure was 48,600 tonne lower than in October 2008 when 392,500 tonnes were sold.

Sales of 180-cst plummeted 28,800 tonnes to their lowest level this year of 147,900 tonnes. The number was also lower than every monthly sales figure recorded in 2008 and 55,100 tonnes, or 27.1 percent, down on the 203,000-tonne figure seen in October last year.

Below are tables of bunker sales in Singapore for each fuel grade in 2009 and 2008 respectively with accumulated totals in the bottom row.
