The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has announced the appointment of Teunis (Ton) Visser, as its new Training and Technical Advisor.

Visser brings close to four decades of experience spanning the oil, gas, chemical and bunker industries. His areas of expertise include refinery and chemical operations, fuel quality, storage and blending, safety and environmental matters, as well as marine gas oil and residual fuel oils.

Visser began his career in 1985 as a lecturer and author, developing bespoke training programmes for the oil industry. He subsequently spent more than a decade with DNV Petroleum Services, where he progressed to the role of Coordinator of the Technical Services Section, overseeing technical fuel-related activities. Since 2010, he has led Oiltraining B.V., a company focused on developing and delivering training and seminars for the oil, gas and chemical sectors, alongside consultancy and advisory work.

In his new role at IBIA, Visser will work closely with the association’s Training Working Group and broader team to strengthen and expand its training offering, including the development of online training. He will also provide technical expertise across IBIA’s boards, working groups and secretariat.

IBIA said it looked forward to the contribution Visser would make to its training and technical work.
