NY/NJ terminals to close on Oct 12th


Port Authority says the majority of the marine terminals will be closed for Columbus Day.



The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has said that all the marine terminals in the port except for the Port Newark Container Terminal will be closed on Monday, October 12 for Columbus Day, a federal holiday which is observed by the International Longshoremen’s Association.

The Port Newark Container Terminal will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. PNCT will also be open Saturday, October 10, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The port authority said its Sealink Office will also be closed in observance of the federal holiday.

The International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) is the largest union of maritime workers in North America, representing upwards of 65,000 longshoremen on the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts, Great Lakes, major U.S. rivers, Puerto Rico and Eastern Canada.

Organized in 1892 along the U.S. Great Lakes, the ILA is affiliated with the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, the Canadian Labour Congress and the world-wide International Transport Workers' Federation.

Additionally, the International Organization of Masters, Mates and Pilots; the United Marine Division Tugboat Workers and the New York State Supreme Court Officers are affiliated with the ILA.
