Accumulated bunker sales in Singapore almost reached the 21 million tonne mark last month as volumes rose by 111,900 tonnes in July 2009 compared to the previous month, according to preliminary estimates released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales of marine fuel at the world's leading bunker port rose to 3,072,000 tonnes last month from 2,960,700 tonnes in June, an increase of 3.8 percent.

The figure was also 41,700 tonnes, or 1.4 percent higher than in July 2008, when the monthly total reached 3,030,900 tonnes.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - rose by 154,800 tonnes last month compared to June 2009, reaching 2,421,800 tonnes. In a comparison with July 2008, sales volumes were 144,400 tonnes higher.

Meanwhile sales of 500-cst - the second-best selling product in Singapore - fell by 30,200 tonnes compared to the previous month. Volumes sold were 290,500 tonnes versus 320,700 tonnes in June. Significantly, the figure was also 74,000 tonnes, or 20.3 percent, lower than volumes recorder during the same month last year.

Sales of 180-cst also dipped below June's figure with monthly sales of 191,200 tonnes. The figure was 9,900 tonnes lower than the previous month and below sales volumes recorded during the whole of 2008. The lowest recorded value last year was 202,700 tonnes in November 2008.

Marine gas oil(MGO) sales also fell slightly in July 2009 compared to the previous month. dropping by only 100 tonnes to 132,500 tonnes from 132,600 tonnes. However, in a comparison with July 2008, MGO sales were up by 2,800 tonnes.
