Bunker One confirmed on Thursday that it has launched a physical operation for the German bunker market.

The business activities of the new entity, named Bunker One (Germany) GmbH, are to focus on the delivery of marine fuel and other related services to ferries, container ships and other commercial vessels in all German North Sea and Baltic Sea ports, with bases in Rostock, Kiel and Hamburg.

Bunker One says it will commence with the supply of high- and low-sulphur IFO, RMD 80, marine gas oil (MGO) and marine diesel oil (MDO). Then, from mid-2019 at the latest, the intention is to also offer low-sulphur fuel oil (LSFO) with a maximum sulphur content of 0.5 percent.

The new business will be operating storage facilities in several locations in Germany, whilst deliveries will be carried out by truck, ex-pipe and barge, Bunker One explained.

The operation will be handled by a dedicated team of staff based in Rostock and Hamburg, which is headed by managing director Carsten Klausen.

Commenting on the news, Klausen said: "We are very focused on our customers and their demand for flexibility, high quality and service. With our new presence in Germany we will be able to benefit both from a great infrastructure, but also from our strong and well-proved Bunker One business model. I am extremely happy to have a number of highly skilled employees with local insight to deliver excellent products and services to our customers, supported by a strong and professional organisation in Bunker One."
