The newbuild very large crude oil carrier (VLCC) Tedorigawa has been delivered to Panama's Tedorigawa Shipping SA.

The vessel was delivered at the Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering shipyard in Nantong, China, and constructed by Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI).

The Tedorigawa is the second of KHI's newly developed 311,000-deadweight-tonne VLCCs, which replaces the conventional bulbous bow with a newly designed bow form that extends the vessel's length at the waterline.

This new design is said to greatly reduce wave-making resistance from bow waves during navigation, improving propulsion performance.

Also, the use of a low-speed, ultra-long-stroke main engine together with a high-efficiency, large-diameter propeller is said to result in lower fuel consumption.

The key characteristics of the vessel have been provided below.

Length overall: 339.50 m
Length between perpendiculars: 334.10 m
Molded breadth: 60.00 m
Molded depth: 28.90 m
Molded draft: 21.00 m
Gross tonnage: 161,483
Deadweight: 311,979 t
Main engine: One set of MAN B & W 7G80ME-C9.5-TII diesel engine
Maximum continuous output: 21,670 kW at 58 rpm
Classification: American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
Country of registration: Panama
