BP remains top supplier in Singapore


Top 20 bunker suppliers at the world's leading port are revealed.

BP Singapore Pte Ltd. has been named the port of Singapore's leading bunker supplier by volume in 2008, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA).

In a list of the 20 top bunker suppliers at the world's largest bunker port last year, BP Singapore retained the position of leading supplier for the sixth year in a row.

Oil logistics provider Titan Bunkering Pte. Ltd. dropped from 8th place to 15th after the parent group decided to focus more on its storage and shipyard operations, and scale down its supply chain activities.

Meanwhile, both Golden Island Diesel Oil Trading Pte. Ltd. and Seven Seas Oil Trading Pte. Ltd. failed to make the top 20 list in 2008, having been listed in previous years.

Bunker sales in Singapore reached a new record of 34.9 million tonnes in 2008, according to data released by the MPA. The figure surpassed the previous year's record of 31.5 million tonnes by 10.7 percent in 2008.

However, with sales volumes at the port falling by 5.1 percent last month, market sources suspect some suppliers are cutting back sales to protect themselves against defaults following the global economic downturn.
