US ferry service drops surcharge

Fuel surcharge to be eliminated from 1st December.

New York ferry service provider NY Waterway has announced that it plans to eliminate its fuel surcharge on all multi-trip ticket routes from December 1st 2008.

In a notice to customers, the company said "As you are aware, the cost of fuel has gone down over the last several weeks. Due to this reduction, we are now in the position to eliminate the fuel surcharge we were forced to implement when the price of fuel skyrocketed in March of this year."

Because of high bunker prices, surcharges were implemented on June 1 for several commuter ferry routes. Although fuel prices continued to increase during the summer, NY Waterway did not impose an additional surcharge.

The revised price for monthly passes will be as follows:

$232 between Port Imperial and Midtown Manhattan, a saving of $10.50.

$232 between Hoboken-14th Street and Midtown Manhattan, saving $10.50.

$232 between Lincoln Harbor and Midtown Manhattan, a saving of $10.50.

$314 between Edgewater and Midtown Manhattan, saving $21.

$311.50 between Port Imperial and Wall Street's Pier 11, saving $21.

$311.50 between Port Imperial and the World Financial Center, saving $21.

$261.30 between Hoboken-14th Street and the World Financial Center, saving $21.

$635 between Belford and Manhattan, a saving of $21.

NY Waterway also announced comparable savings on 10-trip and student monthly passes.
