BIX MGO at 14-month high in week 1


Seventh increase in a row for both the end-of-week and weekly average global MGO price.



The end-of-week daily global average for marine gas oil (MGO), the Bunker Index MGO (BIX MGO), rose for the seventh consecutive week in week 1, according to Bunker Index price data.

The BIX MGO ended the week at $609.76 per tonne - up $5.69, or 0.94 percent, on the $604.07-per-tonne price recorded on 30th December. It is the highest end-of-week price in 14 months - since 6th November 2015 ($614.75 per tonne).

During the same seven-day period, the daily ICE Gasoil front-month settlement price dipped $7.75 per tonne, or 1.55 percent, to $493.25 per tonne.

Weekly averages

The global weekly MGO average rose $6.89, or 1.15 percent, to $606.83 per tonne in week 1, up from $599.83 per tonne seven days earlier. It is the highest average since the week ending 13th November 2015 ($611.00 per tonne).

During the same period, the ICE Gasoil front-month settlement weekly average decreased by $7.96, or 1.59 percent, to $493.35 per tonne. Despite the decline, it is the second-highest weekly average since the week ending 24th July 2015 ($509.65).

The BIX MGO is the daily global average price for all MGO assessment prices published on the Bunker Index website.
