Global bunker average rises for fifth week in a row


BIX was up 1% on Friday compared to seven days earlier. Weekly average also rose 1%.



End-of-week prices

Bunker Index (BIX) prices rose for the fifth consecutive week prices in week 51, according to Bunker Index price data.

The daily Bunker Index (BIX) ended week 51 at $468.28 per tonne - up $4.76, or 1.03 percent, on the $463.52-per-tonne price recorded on 16th December. It is the highest end-of-week price in more than 16 months - since 31st July 2015.

During the same period, the daily Brent front-month settlement price dipped marginally by $0.05 per barrel, or 0.09 percent, to $55.16 per barrel.

Weekly averages

The global BIX weekly average rose for the fifth successive week to its highest level since 31st July 2015 ($478.16 per tonne) during the trading week ending 23rd December.

In week 51, the bunker average increased by $5.18, or 1.12 percent, to $467.61 per tonne, up from $462.43 per tonne seven days earlier.

During the same period, the Brent crude front-month settlement weekly average was up $0.08 per barrel, or 0.15 percent, to $54.99 per barrel. It is the highest weekly average since 24th July 2015 ($55.94 per barrel).

The Bunker Index (BIX) is the daily global average price in US dollars per tonne for all the 700-plus assessment prices published on the bunkerindex.com site, covering over 300 ports and the major fuel grades.
