Global bunker average up 1.3% in September

Bunker Index (BIX) average rises for the first time in three months.

The global Bunker Index (BIX) monthly average rose for the first time in three months in September, according to Bunker Index price data.

September's monthly average increased by $5.13, or 1.3 percent, to $413.11 per tonne, up from the previous month's figure of $407.98 per tonne.

The $413.11 price is the third-highest since November. The September increase is only the fifth in 16 months, since May 2015.

The BIX is the daily global average price for all the 700-plus assessment prices published on the site, covering over 300 ports and the major fuel grades IFO 380, IFO 180, MDO, and MGO. Every month, a dollar average for all the month's assessment prices is calculated.
